Hinterstoder, the 'Pearl of the Alps' in Upper Austria
Although less well known than the Tyrol or Vorarlberg regions, Upper Austria, on the border with Germany and the Czech Republic, close to the Salzburg region, is full of natural treasures to discover in all seasons. The Krumme Steyr dam and the mountainous backdrops of Großer Priel offer an idyllic setting worthy of a postcard. And the Schiederweiher site in Hinterstoder was rightly voted the most beautiful place in Austria!
A hiking region:
Considered a paradise for relaxation and leisure activities whatever the season, Hinterstoder captivates visitors with the authenticity of its landscapes between the impressive backdrop of the Tote Gebirge and the Stoder valley. The many hiking trails, suitable for all types of sport, and the natural beauty spots (Schiederweiher, Polsterlucke, Strumboding waterfall, etc.) speak for themselves. You can also enjoy a unique view of the Spitzmauer, Grossem Priel and Kleinem Priel peaks at an altitude of over 1800 m thanks to the brand-new 10-seater gondola lift or the 6-seater Höss Express chairlift. The summits are yours!
Some 300km of cycling and mountain bike trails (Bikerpark Wurbauerkogel, Singletrail Wurzeralm...) and over 600km of signposted footpaths (Hutterer Böden, Höss-Runde, Baumschlagerreith, Hochsteinalm, Hutterer See und Schafkogelsee...) await sports enthusiasts of all abilities.
We recommend some of the 14 new RundWanderWelt hiking trails from Hinterstoder to Höss: the pleasant village walk in the Hinterstoder valley, the panoramic trail through the Stoder valley at medium altitude or the alpine trail through the rocky terrain of Höss. In winter, it's time for trendy snowshoe outings, ski tours or cross-country skiing. Horse-drawn carriage rides or 6-hour horse-riding tours lasting one or more days offer an original way of discovering the region all year round, along more than 300km of bridle paths.
A region of winter sports:
Winter sports play an important role in Austria and especially in Hinterstoder - from the varied skiing pleasures on the Hutterer Höss to romantic carriage rides and the joys of tobogganing. The Hutterer Höss ski area has 40 km of pistes for all levels, 14 lifts between 600 m and 2,000 m altitude, a Sunny Kids Park and a snow park. With a length of 3,500 m, a maximum gradient of 60% and a width of up to 80 m, the Hinterstoder ski area's World Cup run, named after local downhill ski champion Hannes Trinkl, is not only a challenge for international ski athletes. It also gives fans the feeling of being part of the World Cup.
